Other Arts

Students devote the majority of their time pursuing excellence in the preeminent martial art of TaeKwonDo as defined by ITA’s strict published curriculum of the Ho-Am style of TaeKwonDo. In recognition of the value of different activities closely associated with traditional TaeKwonDo, the International TaeKwonDo Alliance has implemented a way for active Yellow through Black Belts to broaden and strengthen their martial arts knowledge base.To this end, students are encouraged to select at least one Other Art in which to maintain proficiency.

Korean Sword

Korean Sword

The sword can be found in nearly every culture in the world.  It has been used for combat, art, ceremony, and sport.  It represents accomplishment, pride, and integrity.  Native Korean Sword honors traditional Korean sword heritage.

The ITA Native Korean Sword program continues with the authentic traditions and teachings of Korean swording.  Through practice of the sword, students continue to gain insight into this art and their martial spirit.  This is an authentic program designed to educate students in the heritage and proper artistic use of the sword.

The Sword program is open to all active Ho-Am Yellow Belts and above (no age limit). Rank is not earned, and curriculum is limited to enrichment participation.

Xtreme

Xtreme is an exciting blend of martial arts techniques combined with rolls and tumbling moves, created personally and set to music as a freestyle form by the student. It can be performed as an individual routine or with a partner as a Synchronized Team routine.

Hand Stand K Kick

The Xtreme program is split into two levels:

  • Level One Xtreme is for classroom training only (no competition) and is open to all active Ho-Am Blue Belts and above (45 years old and younger).
  • Level Two Xtreme training and competition (single and synchronized) is open to active Ho-Am Black Belts only (45 years old and younger) during classroom training and Regional and World championships.

Only Black Belts (45 years old and younger) may compete in championships. Blue, Brown, and Red Belts under 46 may participate in Level One classroom training only. Rank is not earned, and curriculum is limited to enrichment participation.

Tactical Short Stick

Tactical Short Stick

The International TaeKwonDo Alliance recognizes and honors the diverse history and cultural contributions surrounding the tactical short stick. Throughout history one can find variations of this defensive tool ranging from Africa, Ireland, Asia, and eventually the United States. The ITA Tactical Short Stick program utilizes some of the most practical applications of this tool, such as providing the student options when immediate flight from an assaulter is not possible and/or TaeKwonDo skills are insufficient. However, knowledge and historical perspective of where the short stick has come from provides the student a greater understanding as an artist.

The Tactical Short Stick program is open to all active Ho-Am Yellow Belts and above (no age limit). Rank is not earned, and curriculum is limited to enrichment participation.
